Accident Reconstruction

At Apex Forensic, the reconstruction of accidents is the scientific process which includes; investigating, researching, analyzing, and possibly formulating conclusions about the causes and events during a vehicle collision. We are employed to conduct collision analysis and reconstruction in an effort to identify the collision causation and contributing factors in different types of collisions. Causation,  including the role of the driver(s), vehicle(s), roadway and the environment, is considered based on the services requested. The engineering principles, based in the laws of physics, such as the conservation of linear momentum, work-energy methods, and kinematics are the basis for these analyses and may make use of test data, crash test results and software to calculate useful quantities. The accident reconstruction is performed and analysis is provided to a standard that an expert witness can present at trial. Results from accident reconstructions are also useful in developing recommendations for making roads and highways safer, as well as improving safety aspects of motor vehicle designs. Apex Forensic reconstructions are conducted by forensic engineers that are licensed professional engineers and are ACTAR certified.

Mechanical Systems

At Apex Forensic, a mechanical or building system may consist of  powered and non-powered components, generate forces and movement, a system of mechanisms or a controller with sensors. Our forensic inquiry into the failed process or product is the starting point of failure analysis. Such inquiry is conducted using scientific analytical methods such as electrical and mechanical measurements, or by analyzing failure data such as product reject reports or examples of previous failures of the same kind. The methods of forensic engineering are employed in tracing product defects and flaws. They may include fatigue cracks, brittle cracks produced by stress corrosion cracking or environmental forces for example. Human factors can also be assessed when the cause of the failure is determined. Evaluations are conducted by forensic engineers that are licensed professional engineers.

Vehicle Engineering

At Apex Forensic vehicle failure analysis is the process of collecting and analyzing data to determine the cause of a system or component failure. The failure analysis process can include on site examination and/or collecting failed components for subsequent examination into the cause or causes of failure. We regularly employ a wide array of methods, especially microscopy, xray and spectroscopy, or nondestructive testing methods which are invaluable because the failed products are unaffected by analysis, so inspection always starts using these methods. There are several useful methods to prevent product failures which we consider. including, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and fault tree analysis (FTA), methods which can be used during prototyping to analyze failures before a product is marketed. Failure analyses are conducted by forensic engineers that are licensed. professional engineers.
